“When we were making calculations last year, and we needed to make a decision regarding signing a contract with COVAX Facility, our initial position was that we needed to have the ability to obtain enough vaccines so that at least 10 percent of our population could get vaccinated. But we now have set a target to vaccinate up to 700,000 people against the coronavirus,” the Minister of Health, Anahit Avanesyan, said in a press conference. She said that vaccinating the aforementioned number of citizens will depend on the applications from citizens who are in the risk group and the results of negotiations conducted by the Republic of Armenia, including at what price and under what conditions it will be possible to provide vaccines in the near future. “And we must also consider the expansion of these risk groups and the issue of vaccinating more citizens.”
The minister said that the process of distributing the vaccines is currently taking place. “AstraZeneca vaccines will begin tomorrow, and Sputnik V will begin in the next two days or so.”
Vaccinations will take place on a volunteer basis, and they will be implemented based on applications. As Avanesyan said, local doctors must inform their enlisted citizens, and vaccinations will be carried out in order of priority.
The Ministry of Health has established age groups for receiving the Sputnik V and AstraZeneca vaccines.
