Relative of fallen soldier: ‘In one of his letters, Talaat wrote that he has a great desire to leave one Armenian in the world to display in a museum’

April 15,2021 15:28

When receiving the medal posthumously awarded to fallen soldier Tavros Mkhitar Abrahamyan, his relative said, “One of the perpetrators of the genocide, Talaat Pasha, wrote in his letters that our nation must be uprooted and destroyed. And he proudly emphasized that it was his great desire to leave one Armenian in the world to display in a museum. A century has passed since the great Armenian tragedy, but the enemy is the same, the desire is the same.

These boys who were martyred were fighting the same Turks. There is no consolation for this great pain. Our land remained unknown, and Armenians remained landless. And the reason is not only the war or the “civilized world” that closed its ears and eyes, but also the Talaat-like Armenians who grasped our roots and uprooted us.

Our grief is eternal if there is no struggle. We must uproot the weeds so that the loud silence of our martyrs can be at peace, and so that the bones of our martyrs who were not fortunate enough to be buried can be at peace. Curse and rebuke the Armenians who will see a friend in the Turks because they will curse at the blood of our martyrs… The salvation of our homeland lies on our shoulders. Now, with the help of our minds and strength, we must heal the broken backbone of our homeland in order to be worthy of our heroic soldiers who were martyred with the thought of Freedom or Death on their minds. Eternal glory to our boys.”
