Bridge in “Korea canyon” being renovated

April 29,2021 14:30

Currently, Yerevan Municipality is considering a number of projects aimed at traffic relief in the capital. One of these projects is the bridge in so-called “Korea canyon” connecting Yerevan to Kotayk marz. Overhauling of this bridge which was built more than 50 years ago is involved in Municipality’s annual programs. The activities have been started.

“One of bypass roads is along this bridge, however people don’t use is that often as it used to be neglected for years and is rather shabby. Last year we started the project documentation and this year we have already passed the tender stage and started the construction”, informed the First Deputy Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan.

First of all it was planned to fortify the bridge and build a new traffic zone. As a result of studies it was found out that the bridge construction bases are badly damaged so, it was decided to build a new bridge.

According to the director of Bridge Concrete Constructions plant Minas Minasyan, the bridge is to be tumbled down and constructed anew. The existing traffic segment is of 4 m length. After the reconstruction it will become 8 m and have two-way carriageway.
This bridge joins Davtashen district to Kanaker-Zeytun district and makes it possible to drive to Kotayk and Aragatsotn marzes. Drivers moving to Ashtarak and Zovuni will get the opportunity to pass by Kentron, Arabkir, Ajapnyak districts.

“We will get the possibility to go out to Tbilisi highway without entering the city due to which the traffic will be relieved and become safer. However, the overhauling of the bridge is not enough, we have to repair the road so that it could serve its purposes”, stressed Hrachya Sarsgyan.

62 million dram was disbursed from the city budget to overhaul the bridge. The end of the work is scheduled for this autumn.
