Limited physical abilities open the doors of infinity in dance art. The Youth Creativity Centre of Shengavit and the “Mihr” theatre have initiated a new project. Children with locomotor disabilities as well as with visual and hearing impairments are revealing the language of dance, feeling the harmony of body and soul.
According to the art director of “Mihr” theatre Tsolak Mlke-Galstyan, the project is implemented with the support of the US Embassy. This project involves a series of master classes with disabled people to develop modern dance thinking which helps to reveal body anew.
The project wouldn’t be possible but for the assistance of the Municipality of Yerevan. The building was provided with wheelchair access from entrance to rooms. Lavatories were also adjusted for disabled people. These conditions are important not only for children but also for the specialists working with them as they have similar problems.
The director of the Shengavit youth centre Nare Aramyan stressed that equal possibilities are the most important condition for effective educational and upbringing activities. And from this point of view it is highly important to have all facilities adjusted for children with special needs. Currently the centre has about 600 pupils and 60 of them have special needs.
