“Currently, the Azerbaijani authorities, with the broad support of the Turkish authorities, are spreading misinformation about us while trying to create a stereotype that everything is fine in the region, conflicts are over, and we are moving towards peace,” the Ombudsman of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, stated during the presentation of the annual report on “The Activities of the RA Human Rights Defender in 2020, the State Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms.”
He emphasized, “First, I believe that we cannot allow the responsibility for establishing peace to fall solely on our shoulders and for issues of peace to be discussed at the expense of our rights and our dignity. Peace cannot take place unilaterally or at the expense of one side. We must not allow them to dull us with their false pacifism because my experience shows that torture, atrocities, etc. have taken place parallel to “peace” programs. The 2016 April War is an example. One of the key issues is that the Azeri authorities must be held responsible because that is one of the golden rules to preventing crime. If the criminal is not punished, the crime will be repeated even more severely.”
