‘The relationship between Armenia and the Diaspora must change drastically for Armenia to develop’: Ruben Vardanyan

May 03,2021 11:17

Until now, the attitude towards the Diaspora has been “you can give advice, you can help out, but do not interfere in our internal affairs, we know what we are doing, and the Diaspora must accept that it cannot give advice while sitting in Paris or Moscow.”

The restoration of Artsakh is not only a state issue, but one for all Armenians.

Ruben Vardanyan, the founder of the Aurora humanitarian initiative, spoke about this today with journalists during the Partnership for Artsakh discussion initiated by the Aurora humanitarian initiative.

“Since the beginning of the war, Aurora tried to intervene and help to stop the war as soon as possible. And since the war ended, we started humanitarian programs, which Armenia supported and participated in, as well as many organizations and individuals outside of Armenia.

In the initial stages, we tried to find solutions to the most urgent issues, and in this stage, we are trying to solve the long-term problems because after the war, the security and restoration of Artsakh must be resolved, which will require great will and strength from all of us,” Vardanyan said.

Ruben Vardanyan also emphasized that it is important to review the relationship between Armenia and the Diaspora and make it stronger and more effective.

“I see the new development of Armenia through a drastically changed relationship between Armenia and the Diaspora where we help one another. Not only should the Diaspora help Armenia, but Armenia should also help the Diaspora. Until today, the attitude towards the Diaspora has always been ‘you can give advice, you can help out, but do not interfere in our internal affairs. We know what we are doing, and the Diaspora must accept that it cannot give advice while sitting in Paris or Moscow.’ If they want to, they need to come live in Armenia and change Armenia. In this case, serious changes need to be made on both sides since the war and the past two years have shown that our cooperation cannot work that way.”
