Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan hosted the legendary Armenian mountaineer, awardee of “Honorary climber rescuer” of Arm SSR title, professor of State Institute of Physical Culture and Sport of Armenia Aghvan Chatinyan and handed him the certificate of the Honorary Citizen of Yerevan and a medal. Stressing the many-year pedagogic and coach activity of the mountaineer, his significant contribution to the development of Armenian sport, the Mayor wished him health and vigor.
“Your presence next to us makes us stronger. You have so much to hand down to generations, to teach them. I am grateful to the members of the Council of Elders for making this decision”, noted the Mayor.
The decision of awarding the title of Honorary Citizen of Yerevan was made by the Council of Elders on April 20.
The distinguished mountaineer showed the Mayor the photos with the peaks he conquered himself.

Aghvan Chatinyan went in for mountaineering till 1961. In 1956 he performed the traverse from Ushba to Shkhelda peaks. He also traversed the Dombay mountains which was of 5th level of difficulty. One of the most difficult rises he considers climbing Mount Amanauz (3530 m) in 1957, as the way to the peak was passed via wall climbing (800-900 m), and of course, Mount Elbrus.
