But what are you there for?

Azerbaijan invaded Armenia’s sovereign territory. By noting this, I hope that I am not spreading panic. I am simply repeating what the acting prime minister said. In my opinion, this is a consequence of the weak will and passive behavior, as well as inappropriate responses to the events taking place in Syunik and the, to put it mildly, not legal wording of, “Everything is fine, border demarcations are taking place.”

The government representatives were harshly opposing the Human Rights Defender, Arman Tatoyan, when he would provide warnings about the Azerbaijani army’s activities in Syunik, and they accused him of interfering in politics.

All day Wednesday, the authorities and their supporters were calling out “notorious circles” for carrying out “media terror” against the people, and they assured us that the enemy had not advanced a single meter. Andranik Kocharyan, the chairman of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Defense and Security Affairs, aggressively countered all concerns. In the end, the Ministry of Defense “calmed” the population’s fears; yes, the enemy entered the territory of Armenia, but without firing shots. Of course, this is comforting.

Now, I believe that the government will use its tried and true weapon in order to justify itself: Serzh Sargsyan and Robert Kocharyan are to blame for the fact that the Azerbaijani army invaded our territory. It’s interesting how long they will continue to use that excuse. Yes, the former presidents can be blamed for many things, perhaps even crimes if the court issues a verdict. But you are the ones who were in power for three years. What have you done to defend Armenia’s borders and maintain the security of our citizens? Let’s say that the “former regime” lied to you and maliciously handed over power to humiliate you, they placed the burden of the war on you, etc. Let’s say all of that is true. But in that case, why are you in power if you were able to take all of that easily? What have you been doing for the past three years besides using aggressive rhetoric?

… If we are to speak about “throwing political opponents on the asphalt” (both literally and figuratively), our authorities are lions, but when the issue deals with Azerbaijan’s violations, they turn into meek kittens.
