“We likely would not have been so humiliated if we chose Europe over Russia,” Karen Ohanjanyan believes.
Russia is not condemning the obvious fact that Azerbaijan has violated Armenia’s territorial integrity, and according to many, there is a fundamental reason: if Russia criticizes Azerbaijan’s actions, Baku will immediately place the issue of removing Russian peacekeepers from Artsakh on its agenda. In other words, Armenia’s strategic ally is constrained and even avoids making adequate statements. In that case, what else can we expect from the Russian side if, God forbid, the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem in Nagorno-Karabakh and inside the borders of Armenia provokes a new war, we asked the Helsinki Initiative-92’s NKR Committee Coordinator, Laureate of International Peace and Human Rights Rewards, and human rights activist from Artsakh Karen Ohanjanyan.
According to the activist, invading Armenia was a pre-planned scenario that was agreed upon with Moscow. “Lavrov discussed that with Aliyev in Baku. That was Russia’s secret agreement with Turkey- Turkey will make concessions in the Near East and other regions across the world, as well as large trade transactions, which will save Russia from destruction as a result of total sanctions against Russia,” Karen Ohanjanyan noted.
“At the time, Armenia, at the initiative of former President Serzh Sargsyan, made a huge mistake by refusing to sign the Association Agreement with the European Union and by preferring the agreement with the Customs Union within the framework of the EAEU membership. The current war and its painful consequences for the two countries are a result of this treacherous policy. We likely would not have been so humiliated if we chose Europe over Russia. That is why such behavior of the CSTO was quite predictable,” Karen Ohanjanyan said.

“Armenia must leave these senseless international structures that are Russia’s attachment and, by and large, are not able to solve any problems. It should also be noted that today, Russia is ‘swinging its sword’ with its weapons, but in reality, it is a sham. That country is very weak and unable to resist Turkey today, which supports Azerbaijan. Russia does not have enough power to support its allies,” the speaker said.
