“Iran will not provide a tough response,” Iranologist and expert from the Armenian Institute of International and Security Affairs, Emma Begijanyan, told Aravot Daily.
The Iranologist explained that Iran is the state that has not attacked any other state and will not do so, especially not Shiite Azerbaijan. “The interests of Armenia and Iran always coincide. But Iran will not attack Azerbaijan.”
Regarding sanctions against Iran, Emma Begijanyan said, “The restrictions against Iran will soon disappear because it seems that an agreement will be signed next week. That is more likely than Iran attacking Azerbaijan or carrying out military operations. On the other hand, the acting Prime Minister of Armenia continues to ask if we want to go to Iran by train, but perhaps Iran is saying that it wants to come to Armenia by train via Nakhichevan. They are not in favor of that. Therefore, if we take into account that our exports to Iran, except for electricity, are very small, we do not need that train or the road through Azerbaijan. And if Iran wants to go to Russia, Azerbaijan has already solved that issue. The train route through Azerbaijan to Russia is almost ready.”
