‘We are going along our path, they are going along theirs’: Robert Kocharyan on disagreements between him and Serzh Sargsyan

May 25,2021 13:09

Second President of Armenia and leader of the Armenia bloc, Robert Kocharyan, did not wish to discuss whether or not there were disagreements between him and third President Serzh Sargsyan during the joint press conference between the leaders of the Armenia bloc at the Armenia bloc’s staff headquarters.

He said, “I am under the impression that this topic is irrelevant. Today, we are participating in these elections under different blocs. I do not think that this is the most relevant topic today around which we need to carry out debates and discussions.”

Robert Kocharyan responded to the question about disagreements between him and Serzh Sargsyan with a question: do you know any two people between whom disagreements and arguments do not happen? “I do not think that this is the topic we should be discussing. We are going along our path, they are going along theirs.”

When asked if he considers Serzh Sargsyan to be a rival in these elections, Robert Kocharyan responded, “During elections, everyone is competing against everyone else, that’s clear. But in this case, there are rivals during this election with whom there are insurmountable disagreements over the future, present, and security of Armenia.  That is why there are rivals in the field of competitors in this election with whom it is simply impossible to cooperate. I think we can have a more substantive conversation about it when all the blocs are registered and the quota for participation in the elections is clear to everyone. It is not clear today.”
