“Every day, people ask what will happen in the end. Every day, we wake up wondering if martial law will be declared and if shots will be fired. There are twenty days until the elections. What are you going to do, Mr. Pashinyan?” independent deputy Tigran Urikhanyan asked during the questions and answers session of parliament-government in reference to the illegal infiltration of Azerbaijani troops into Armenian territory.
“We will continue consultations within the framework of the CSTO and with Russia,” Nikol Pashinyan began. According to him, there are also consultations taking place with Iran. Regarding martial law, Nikol Pashinyan said that there is no need to declare martial law at the moment. “God forbid, that can take place if the situation drastically deteriorates. We hope that this will not happen.”
Tigran Urikhanyan also noticed that Pashinyan expressed conviction that, without anyone’s support, Azerbaijan would not have violated Armenia’s territorial integrity. “Are you referring to Turkey?” he asked. Nikol Pashinyan responded, “That is one of the options.”
Urikhanyan then asked, “Are you concerned that if Armenia takes punitive action against the Azerbaijani troops, Russia or the CSTO will not provide the necessary support, thus violating their obligations?” Pashinyan expressed confidence that such a thing would mean the dissolution of that structure. “Azerbaijan has crossed the red line. I think it is impossible for Russia to not fulfill its contractual obligations. Such a thing can be ruled out.”
