“The issue of the POWs is one of our most painful issues. People, be assured that it’s only a matter of time. Azerbaijan simply sees that it can hurt me and our people that way, and it is trying to seek revenge. But the fact that our POWs will return, the international community noted that. Azerbaijan specifically wants to have an influence on the elections. It has a document on the table regarding how much of the vote someone should gather in the elections,” acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during a meeting with supporters of Civil Contract in Ajapnyak.
He assured that there is no conspiracy. Even more, he told the public, “I would do the same thing you would do. You would have signed that document on November 9, 2020, because you would have known that if you didn’t sign it, 30,000 soldiers would have been surrounded.” One of the supporters, a woman, thanked Pashinyan for saving her son.
Pashinyan said that he did not make any secret agreements. “If there is any agreement, specifically about Syunik- a corridor, Russian positions- I have spoken openly about it. This is the only place where there are working nuances. But I have verbally spoken about all of that prior to the agreements and afterward. The nuances I do not speak about are only unknown in Armenia. I can speak clearly and calmly in Armenia, but if it comes out, that would be a threat to our security. There are some “provocative” groups trying to accuse us of giving a corridor through Meghri, and they are going to support the political force that put the issue of handing over the Meghri region to Azerbaijan on the table at the National Security Council session in 1999. If you don’t believe me, Karen Demirchyan’s wife’s memories were published, and Vagharshak Harutyunyan, who was present, is still alive. Do you understand where this absurdity has reached? We are not the ones to blame in this story, but we are the ones to blame. We are not the insidious ones in this story; we are honest.”
