The ‘destructive’ forces are both part of the ‘former regime’

June 03,2021 10:33

One of the businessmen on the government’s pre-election list admitted that one of his motives for running in the election was to “destroy them,” with “them” referring to the previous government, Pashinyan’s opponents. In any case, he is sincere without making loud statements about the state and the nation.

This is the main discourse of this election.  The main participants, the Nikol supporters and the Kocharyan supporters, entered the election campaign in order to “destroy each other” both during and after that. I have no doubt that Kocharyan and Pashinyan live with those dreams; it is at the core of their actions. Recently, the 4rd.am website wrote about with whom the second president had political revenge during his rule, presenting a list of 30 people (of course, incomplete).  Well, the “Pashinyan list” is fresh, and there is no need to remind anyone.

On this occasion, I remembered an episode from the history of our people, reserving that in the 15th century, in the absence of statehood, politics and power were embodied, first of all, in the form of high-ranking clergymen. In this case, I am talking about Catholicos Kirakos I Virapetsi.  He was an interesting figure, not from the “nomenclature” of bishops; during his short-term Catholicosate (1441-1443), Kirakos considered one of his most important deeds to be the excommunication of the Church Assembly of the Akhtamar See, the Red Monastery of the Black Mountain. This came into force more than 3 centuries before that, when the assembly of 5 bishops of Akhtamar wanted to carry out a coup and proclaim Bishop David Tornikyan of Akhtamar the Catholicos of Greater Armenia.  Patriarch Kirakos put an end to this age-old enmity.

Today, of course, there is no time to wait three centuries in our fragile state. Pashinyan and Kocharyan, their teams, and their constituencies are completely immersed in the “topic of destruction.” But, as I have written many times, this topic is not historically relevant; it is outdated. In that sense, these two forces are past, old, and “former.” And the state will start developing when people come to power who will close that subject.
