“We did not recognize Artsakh’s independence during my administration because that would have been the start of a new war,” the second President of Armenia and the head of the Armenia alliance, Robert Kocharyan, said during a meeting in Meghri in response to a participant’s question. He expressed conviction that if Pashinyan’s force did not come to power in Armenia, we would have still had a 30-year resource of peaceful negotiations remaining.
During the meeting in Meghri, Robert Kocharyan also said that he was surprised by how these authorities were able to lie to the Armenian people using “such primitive means,” especially when no one in the world considers Armenians to be naive. Moreover, Armenians are considered clever and sinister. “This is not even lying. This is dumbing down,” Robert Kocharyan said, adding that the government is collecting taxes from the people and “making you stupid with your own money.” At the end of the meeting, the mayor of Meghri, Mkhitar Zakaryan, urged the citizens to trust the Armenia alliance, and said that “As a result of potential failure, I will be the one to blame in Meghri.”
