During a press conference on Thursday, first President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrossian spoke about an offer by Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov on delimitation and demarcation. He said that this is a mandatory condition, and all neighboring countries, even those with whom Armenia has friendly relations, have clearly demarcated their borders. “Perhaps we are too late. We should have done this sooner. There is no danger there.”
In response to a question about what impact it will have on Artsakh if Armenia recognizes Azerbaijan’s borders, Ter-Petrossian said, “That issue has always existed. Over the past 30 years, Azerbaijan has always demanded the restoration of its territorial integrity. Regarding the issue of what impact that will have on Artsakh’s fate, I cannot say because I do not know the perspectives of Armenia’s partners. Let’s also understand something else: we did not only lose in this war, but something even worse happened. If Artsakh was removed from the resolution process by Robert Kocharyan, then Armenia was also removed from the process as a result of this war as one of the sides. No one is asking Armenia’s opinion. Armenia cannot make any decisions on its own regarding Artsakh. After the heavy defeat in war, the worst thing is that we may no longer be players.”
