The acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was urged to speak about border issues during the Civil Contract party’s election campaign in the Areni community of the Vayots Dzor province. He spoke about the inevitability of demarcation and delimitation efforts.
One woman asked what will happen in Areni during demarcation; the Turks will come and sit in her backyard. Pashinyan asked her where her yard is, and the Areni resident responded, “Right next to the border. The Turks will come and sit in my backyard.”
Pashinyan began to raise his voice. “One minute, you’re not the one to decide where the Turks will come and sit. You’re not the one to decide, relax. Regarding how the Turks are watching, the Turks have been watching Aygepar, Movses, Nerkin Karmiraghbyur, Vazashen, Aygehovit, Berdavan, Kirants, and Berkaber for the past 30 years. It is not necessary to spread panic. When you say that the Turks will come and sit in your backyard, they will do the wrong thing by coming to sit in your backyard. They won’t sit anywhere. Don’t spread news like that. I don’t know what information sources you use.”
