Shahamiryan Street in the Shengavit administrative district of Yerevan was renamed in honor of business owner Hrant Vardanyan. It was renamed to Hrant Vardanyan Street. This decision was made during a session of the Yerevan City Council on Tuesday. The basis of this decision was an appeal made by the Minister of Economy, the Grand Holding company, and the Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen of Armenia.
Renaming the street from Shahamiryan Street to Hrant Vardanyan Street was also based on the circumstance that 12 of the 14 buildings on the street belong to a number of companies founded by Hrant Vardanyan that have addresses and are operating there. The Vardanyan Family Charitable Foundation also operates on that street. The foundation is committed to the improvement of the mentioned street, which started in 2020. The decision to rename the street was accepted with 23 votes “in favor,” 14 “against,” and 5 “abstained.”
