Armenian military-political leaders made a decision to not extend the commander of N military base, Major-General Grigory Khachaturov’s contract as of July 7th. The reserve Lieutenant-Colonel Zakar Bzhshkyan informed Aravot Daily of this. According to Zakar Bzhshkyan, who has served in the Armenian Armed Forces for 28 years, this is an obvious display of repression, and the current authorities are doing everything to get rid of experienced commanders.
“I am an apolitical person. I am simply concerned about our country’s security and the defense of the borders. Instead of giving commanders like Grigory Khachaturov higher ranks to strengthen our army, they seem to not find it important enough to extend his contract for whatever reason,” Zakar Bzhshkyan said. According to the soldier, releasing experienced commanders from the army pursues one goal: to weaken the army and create fertile ground for the surrender of the enclaves.
The retired lieutenant colonel spoke about how Grigory Khachaturov was able to manage the July border incidents in Tavush correctly, as a result of which we won. “Khachaturov was the only general who fought to the end against the current authorities’ decision Onik Gasparyan’s removal from his position as Chief of the General Staff for the sake of the country’s security interests, and staying loyal to his soldier’s oath, honor, and dignity, he did not surrender like some others,” Zakar Bzhshkyan said.
He called on all political parties to unite and fight against unpatriotic decision-makers who can attack the country’s security with the stroke of a pen. “A few days ago, the commander of the Agarak military base, Argam Gevorgyan, was also released, who was also an exemplary and experienced commander. If we turn a blind eye to all this, we will close the last pages of Armenian history,” Zakar Bzhshkyan concluded.
