First of all, the closed chain of becoming a judge must be broken: Rustam Badasyan on Nikol Pashinyan’s dream courts

“The dream court consists of ethical, professional judges, where proceedings take place quickly and there is public trust in the judiciary,” said acting Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan, answering journalists’ questions after Thursday’s session of government.

On Thursday, the government approved the proposal of the Supreme Judicial Council to increase the number of judges by 20 specialists.

Speaking about the decision, acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said, “We should also consider the increase in the number of judges as a means of substantive reforms in the judiciary. We hope that with these additions, we will strengthen the best experience in the judiciary. On the other hand, we will include a fresh look and fresh forces in the judiciary, finally getting the judicial system of our dreams whose decisions will be considered the embodiment of fairness and justice. This is the most important goal.”

In response to a question about how judicial reforms will take place after Nikol Pashinyan’s announcement to replace the velvet mandate with a steel mandate, Rustam Badasyan said that the directions are outlined in the pre-election program. “From the constitutional amendments to the concrete initiatives we already have. There is an anti-corruption court package and so on.”

Rustam Badasyan said that first of all, the closed chain of becoming a judge must be broken. “New judges must definitely appear in the judiciary. The closed chain of constant reproduction within the system to come to the Judicial Department, to become a judge after a while, and to have connections within the judiciary must be broken.”
