According to our sources, the mayor of Meghri, Mkhitar Zakaryan, has submitted his resignation.
In an interview with Aravot Daily, Zakaryan said that the mood in the municipality is one of bidding farewell. “On the 26th, I will most likely accept my mandate in the National Assembly. Therefore, I decided to resign and give the new team an opportunity to work. We should not lose the coming days,” Mkhitar Zakaryan said.
He denied that any pressure was used against him. “No one can put pressure on me. I did this at my own will,” the mayor of Meghri said.
Mkhitar Zakaryan is number 17 on the Armenia alliance’s list. At the same time, the police are preparing materials against him, as they are with other community leaders in the Syunik province.
