‘This is actually a statement to create new sources of tension, Azerbaijan is creating a new challenge’: Tatevik Hayrapetyan on Aliyev’s threats

July 15,2021 14:15

My Step deputy Tatevik Hayrapetyan responded to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev’s threats from the National Assembly podium.

He had threatened that if Armenia does not sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan, Armenia will regret it because it will be too late. He also promised that they will “return their ancestors’ lands: Zangezur, Sevan, Yerevan.”

Tatevik Hayrapetyan said, “I believe that the peace Azerbaijan imagines is very far from the true peace that all people aspire to. When referring to peace, the President of Azerbaijan imagines trophy parks, he imagines obvious demands against Armenia’s sovereign territory. The National Assembly of Azerbaijan obviously presents territorial claims to the Syunik province and, at the level of the Vice-Speaker, calls it “Azerbaijani land” to which they must return.  The same thesis is continued by the leader of Azerbaijan. And with these theses and practices, when Azerbaijani troops have infiltrated the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, the President of Azerbaijan speaks of peace. It is actually a matter of creating new sources of tension. In this way, Azerbaijan challenges the already fragile regional stability, and all this receives the open support of Ankara. The famous declaration of Shushi is vivid proof of that.”

Tatevik Hayrapetyan urged international partners not to pay tribute to Aliyev’s propaganda and not to read texts that justify the war and the threats because this is a challenge not only to Artsakh, Armenia and the Armenian people, but also to the community of humanity.
