“We were not surprised by the decision. I spoke about that during my concluding speech. Even then, the process was obvious. The decision was expected,” I Have Honor alliance representative Davit Harutyunyan told reporters during a briefing in the Constitutional Court.
The Constitutional Court published its decision on the appeals made by the Armenia and I Have Honor alliances and the Zartonk and Armenian Homeland political parties disputing the results of the June 2021 snap parliamentary elections.
The supreme court decided to uphold the Central Electoral Commission’s decision on the election results. “The Constitutional Court’s decision is a legal one, but made with political influence,” Davit Harutyunyan added.
The Armenia alliance’s representative Aram Vardevanyan also said that the Constitutional Court’s decision was expected. “The political persecution toward the Constitutional Court was clear. Every one of the nine judges thought they would get thrown on the asphalt, their fingers would get cut off, and there would be a vendetta if they went against the government… in these conditions, the Constitutional Court did not have courage, and it did not invalidate the results of the elections. But this does not change reality. This decision was a political order.”
