‘I don’t think this National Assembly will fully serve the people’s interests’: Davit Sanasaryan

July 19,2021 15:03

“I cannot evaluate if the Constitutional Court’s ruling was entirely legal or not, but the elections mostly took place in accordance with democratic principles,” the head of the Sovereign Armenia political party and former director of the State Control Service, Davit Sanasaryan, told journalists during a briefing about the Constitutional Court’s ruling.

The Constitutional Court, investigating appeals made by the Armenia and I Have Honor alliances and the Zartonk and Armenian Homeland political parties disputing the results of the June 20th snap parliamentary elections, decided to uphold the Central Electoral Commission’s ruling.

Davit Sanasaryan emphasized, “Obviously, there were many violations. There was even a situation when a large number of votes of our party were not registered, then they were registered as a result of the recount. But by and large, the will of the people was expressed.  These results have already been recognized as a fact by the Constitutional Court and international structures. We have an elected National Assembly. Unfortunately, I do not think that this National Assembly will fully serve the people’s interests because there are forces in it that should not have been there. But due to the lack of will of the authorities, there were no changes that would control the financial flows of where and how much money they spend. There was not enough control at all. There were no trials, as a result of which many figures who now appeared in the National Assembly would be in the relevant penitentiaries. This is the situation. In the former-current struggle, the people did not choose the pre-election programs. They chose what they chose,” David Sanasaryan said.
