48 citizens in critical condition due to coronavirus, government does not exclude possibility of more restrictions

According to the Ministry of Health’s predictions, the trend of new coronavirus cases will continue over the next few days. The deputy minister of Health, Lena Nanushyan, spoke about this during Thursday’s session of government. She said that at the moment, 3,790 citizens are receiving treatment, of which 606 are in the hospital. Of that, 282 are in severe conditions, and 48 citizens are in critical condition. “The pandemic situation in the region is tense. Several European countries also continue to notice growth, but hospitalization and death rates are low in countries where large percentages of citizens have been vaccinated,” Nanushyan said.

The acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan added that vaccinations must continue intensively, and the practice of wearing masks in closed spaces must continue on a high level. “We adopted policies in May of last year that we must learn to live with the coronavirus. We have made this decision and I hope that we will be able to implement it in practice so that we don’t go under lockdown. But we must do this with mutual effort.”

Lena Nanushyan said that over five thousand vaccines are administered daily. According to the deputy minister, the portion of foreign citizens is small. Pashinyan said that daily statistics must be gathered to see how many people vaccinated daily are foreign citizens. “We agreed that we must maintain the trend of 5,000 Armenians daily.” He said that they must continue to push forward the process of vaccination in all state bodies and make efforts to maintain the rule of wearing masks in closed spaces so that they aren’t forced to use administrative intervention. “If the statistics force us to, we will have to move in that direction.”
