In response to a question about whether or not he has answers connected to Shushi and Hadrut, if there will be an objective investigation, or if those questions will accumulate and cause a new crisis during an interview with Aravot Daily, the head of the Verelk political party, Colonel Aleksan Minasyan, who is the founder of the Ministry of Defense Military College named after Monte Melkonian, said, “That is unpredictable. I am not an authority, nor am I a part of it, so I don’t know if they will take steps to ensure that those questions are raised objectively.”
When asked if he ever asks himself those questions as soldiers, such as how Shushi was able to be captured even though it was an invincible fortress, Aleksan Minasyan responded, “Of course they do. My son, myself, and my whole family fought in the war. My son was in the last car to leave Shushi. The first car was destroyed by a Bayraktar, but I was lucky because nothing happened to my son. But he said that there was carelessness. Cars with Armenian license plates entered Shushi, and there were no checkpoints or controls for that. I think that is why what happened, happened. We were careless. The reality is that we did not work, we did not do what we should have done.”
In response to the question of how it could have been betrayal if it was a consequence of negligence, Minasyan answered, “In any case, I attribute it to negligence by 99%. That’s how I see it, my eyes, my heart, my soul, talking to people.”
In response to the question about whether it was a capture or surrender of Shushi, because there are opinions that it was handed over, not captured, and they try to put it in the pockets of various officials, such as Seyran Ohanyan, Movses Hakobyan, etc., and if he connects it with any person or official, the colonel answered. “No, I do not connect it to people. I only connect it to the fact that we did not have the qualified army where there should have been discipline. And the discipline was supposed to be control, the so-called checkpoints, which was to help us check who entered Shushi and who left, which we did not have. I say my whole family was on the battlefield. My son used to say, ‘Dad, we are careless, no one is as careless as we are.’ I do not have serious information on whether it was a betrayal or not.”
