“This is political persecution. Against the background of new concessions in Syunik, they must isolate the opposition mayors to appoint their puppet community leaders instead, who will do nothing if there are more concessions from Syunik,” deputy from the Armenia alliance Anna Grigoryan told reporters during a briefing. A petition was signed on Northern Avenue in central Yerevan demanding the release of the detained mayors. Anna Grigoryan emphasized, “I am a working deputy, but I am not able to visit them. What did they do that a parliamentary deputy who is an official cannot visit them? Even more, deputy Arman Babajanyan had visited Nairi Hunanyan. In other words, a deputy can visit terrorist Nairi Hunanyan, but visiting the mayors is prohibited. This is absurd and it has an entirely political context.”
