Russia acts against Armenian interests while dancing to the “duduk” of the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem and implementing Baku’s and Ankara’s mandates.
Is there anyone for whom Azerbaijan’s attack on Armenia on July 28th was unexpected?
What happened was not only expected, but it was strongly expected considering the Azerbaijani president’s recent statements on “Zangezur” and his report of having the same position as Moscow. This was followed by events that should have shown the process of “talking” with Armenia by Russia. That’s what happened. On July 26, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu had a telephone conversation with the acting Armenian Minister of Defense Arshak Karapetyan, discussing regional security and other issues of mutual interest. And a day later, on July 27, information was received that Shoygu had met with the First Deputy Minister of Defense Arshak Karapetyan in Moscow. The information was provided by Interfax, citing its military-diplomatic source in Yerevan, but the details of the meeting and the topics discussed were not published.

In fact, after Aliyev’s recent visit to Moscow, it became clear that pressure on Armenia had increased and that Moscow and Baku were reluctant to wait. What was needed for that? After returning from Moscow, Aliyev showed the identity of the Russian-Azerbaijani positions, and immediately began to act: new clashes, new hostilities, new casualties. It is obvious that Moscow and Baku are in a hurry. They are not satisfied with the need for the West to continue negotiations on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict or the statements on the status of Nagorno-Karabakh.
Moscow and Baku are focused on the imperative of mapping and communication unblocking between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and they do not like the assessments condemning the presence of Azerbaijani armed forces in Armenia to exclude “corridor” issues. And in order for the Armenians to sober up, the issue was moved to the “practical” field: “you do not agree peacefully, we will win by force.”
Regardless of the course of the July 28 developments and the agreements reached through Russia, the Armenian authorities are obliged to organize a discussion in the UN Security Council on the facts of the last two months against the sovereignty of our state. Turkey and Azerbaijan, with the tacit consent of Russia, continue to show hostile actions, and it is obvious that Moscow will not oppose it, and it does not matter whether Russia can or does not want to do it, there is a clear situation, and it is necessary to act accordingly.
The military-political situation in our region requires new and adequate actions. The fact that there is a joint Turkish-Azerbaijani army and a military-political alliance according to the Shushi Declaration has been obvious for several months now, no matter how much it worries Armenia’s “strategic ally.”
Therefore, in this new situation imposed on us, the Armenian authorities have to acquire a new ally in order to maintain Armenia’s security and territorial integrity. “Cheap weapons” at the expense of the territories of Armenia and Artsakh under the formula of “strategic” relations with Russia came at a high cost for Artsakh and Armenia.
We not only need weapons, but also a real ally. You can buy somewhat expensive weapons, but have a true strategic ally.
