Vahe Ghalumyan does not rule out that Tavush’s enclaves will be exchanged: ‘I believe there is a problem and it needs to be discussed’

Civil Contract deputy, Tavush-born Vahe Ghalumyan told reporters during an interview in parliament that he does not have any information regarding the deployment of Russian border guards and escorts in Voskepar, but he will find out more. When asked if the question of surrendering any settlements is on the table, he denied it, but when he was reminded that he once said there are enclaves in Tavush, Ghalumyan responded, “I said that there are territories in Tavush that are under Azerbaijani control, and there are Azerbaijani territories that are under our control.” When asked if it is possible that they will be exchanged, Ghalumyan responded, “I do not rule it out. I believe there is a problem and it needs to be discussed.” When asked if there are problems in Tavush that the need for deploying Russian border guards arose, Vahe Ghalumyan responded, “There are no problems in Tavush at the moment.” The deputy said that he did not have time to inquire about it in detail. “As far as I know, there is a document for the establishment of a demarcation and delimitation commission so that obstacles along the border can be resolved.”

Reporters also asked about how Nikol Pashinyan stated that CSTO troops should be stationed along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, and how Ghalumyan feels about that. It seems as though the control of our borders is entirely being surrendered to another country. Ghalumyan responded, “We have an agreement and they are obligated to interfere if there are issues along the border according to the agreements.”

When asked if, in other words, he agrees to the deployment of Russian or CSTO border troops along our borders, he said, “I agree to peace, and if that peace must be established through those means, then it is possible.”
