The scientific director of the Institute of Oriental Studies, Ruben Safrastyan, when speaking about the regional processes and possible developments, said in an interview, “The first thing I want to mention is as follows. Turkey, essentially, gave itself the task of turning the South Caucasus into its sphere of influence. It intensified this aspiration beginning with the war in Artsakh last year, which it essentially prepared and led while sending weapons, arms, and mercenaries. It is obvious that Turkey wishes to become the main working state in the region. This is the important goal Turkey set forth for itself in world politics.
The second thing is Turkey’s working style in our region. In order to reach its goal, it is not only directly initiating activities, but it is also using Azerbaijan. It seems that Azerbaijan turned into Turkey’s tool for implementing this global strategic goal.
The third thing is also very important. Of course, Azerbaijan is a state that has its expansionist and aggressive goals aimed against the Republics of Artsakh and Armenia.

Fourth: Turkey, it seems, by using Azerbaijan in the region, is preparing to implement its Pan-Turkic plans. The process of establishing a federal state with Azerbaijan serves those plans, which, essentially, was announced with the Shushi declaration. The corridor that Turkey intends to receive through Syunik will also serve those goals. It seems that Turkey is also pursuing pan-Turkic goals in its pursuit of global strategic goals.”
