In parallel with the parliamentary jabs

August 13,2021 10:30

What Artsvik Minasyan said, what Alen Simonyan responded, what reaction Anna Mkrtchyan found, and what “strong counterattack” Ruben Rubinyan gave is interesting today. Such incidents will be forgotten in three days, and in three years, the deputies may not be remembered either.  There are even former NA Speakers in Armenia, about whom many have already forgotten.

The Supreme Council of 1990-95, for example, is memorable to me. The contradictions were deeper at that time, but they were of a political, ideological nature; I do not remember the deputies going down to the level of personal compromising and talking about each other’s private lives and families.

Most of today’s deputies speak in the style of “yellow journalism’- who will be able to publish a more discrediting fact about whom. The legislators of this generation are the children of the Facebook age: “status” – “comment” – “counter-comment” – “hearts” – “likes” – “angry emojis.”

All this is not a big problem in itself. They exist today, they do not exist tomorrow. Tomorrow, we may have politicians who are not so superficial. I see a problem elsewhere; during this senseless noise, irreversible processes can take place for our state, the consequences of which, even if they are ever eliminated, will require the persistent efforts of several generations, deprivations, maybe even lives. What do I mean? 1) The de facto reshaping of Armenia’s borders in the name of “demarcation” and “demarcation” and 2) The significant reduction of the Armenian army in the name of “reforms.” If that happens, then I have no idea what to do next to “turn the wheel.”

One of the main reasons for the possible negative developments is that the current government has not understood what Russia’s real interests and aspirations are in the region, or what the Kremlin does. The parliamentary opposition is probably not trying to raise the issue for fear of spoiling relations with the Russians. I do not think it is a secret to anyone what the Russian military is doing in the parts of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border where they are now. I am sure that a wide range of people know what the Kremlin is pushing our leadership in its relations with Azerbaijan. It is clear that cooperation with that country should be developed, but not as it is done now, to say “yes” to everything and then try to play games. This provincial “art” does not pass in international relations.

Unfortunately, the Prime Minister still does not fully understand what he is saying.  In fact, he says that it is not possible to deploy CSTO observers along the Armenian border, so the OSCE Minsk Group observers should come. It is better to avoid these topics and focus on internal “outsiders.”
