‘We are controlling our borders’: Deputy Chief of General Staff Eduard Asryan presents border situation to parliamentary deputies
Major General Edward Asryan, the chief of the Operative General Department of the Armenian Armed Forces and the deputy chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, took part in the closed meeting on the border situation of the Republics of Armenia and Artsakh held in parliament. The discussion proposal was suggested by the opposition Armenia faction. Also, as a result of the recent tensions, the Armenian side has two casualties. Azerbaijan also continues to fire on Armenian settlements. After the discussion, in a conversation with journalists, Eduard Asryan said that the general border situation was discussed, as well as the eastern and the operative tactical situation in the direction of Yeraskh.
“I presented what kind of situation has arisen and what the situation is at the moment. I can state that the Armenian Armed Forces are standing in their positions, giving a worthy response to a number of provocative actions by the enemy. If rumors are being spread among the public that we have losses and the opponent does not, then all this does not correspond to the reality, the opponent also has losses. We control our borders and we will fulfill this task, which is set for the Armed Forces, the army, with honor,” said the Deputy Chief of General Staff, adding that the enemy will try to put pressure on the army of the resisting state and its border forces.

“The same goes for Azerbaijan, which is trying to put pressure on us, but it does not succeed. When we say the territory of Lake Sev, it does not mean that all the actions are taking place in that territory. It is in a certain direction to the south. The enemy tried to approach our combat positions. It was not at a distance that would cause us harm, but in the intermediate area between us and their positions. With the targeted military service of our soldiers, they managed to find the enemy at night. As a result of the actions of the Armed Forces, the enemy retreated with losses.”
According to the deputy head of the General Staff, the opponent may not have had a tendency to advance. “Advancement in military terminology can be understood in different ways.” As for the statements of the President of Azerbaijan that Lake Sev is theirs, the Deputy Chief of General Staff answered, “The President of Azerbaijan can say whatever he wants, but it does not correspond to reality. It is a distorted story, which is not a basis for us. His statements raise our vigilance. We are ready to repel any provocative action by them.”
