The first Human Rights Defender of Armenia Larisa Alaverdyan responded to Ilham Aliyev’s threats at the Hayeli press club, saying that the President of Azerbaijan gave clear signals that he will open the Zangezur corridor by force. “And not so that Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan will unite, but so that the corridor will serve the Azerbaijanis coming and living in Armenia.” According to her, to call the mobilization forces in this situation and say that we must ensure our security with it is “something like political insanity.” “Why don’t you talk about the army, or at least about not destroying it?” The Prime Minister’s brother-in-law, who holds one of the highest positions, spoke of the mobilization forces as a step towards salvation. Stop the disintegration of the army. The army is not only disintegrating, but it is experiencing setbacks in all directions. The atmosphere in the army is such that parents do not want to send their sons to the army,” she added.
Addressing the voters of the Civil Contract party, Larisa Alaverdyan said that the ruling party makes its non-patriotic decisions on behalf of the people, so it is time to sober up. “Something happened, it did not end on November 9, we have entered a new stage – the destruction of the country. And finally, where are those smart people from the Armenian National Movement who claimed that when Azerbaijan annexes Artsakh, Armenia will flourish and we will finally feel the taste of peace? Where are you? After all, it is not only about the first president; it was a team. From the beginning, Azerbaijan considered it a historical mistake and a sabotage of the Azerbaijani people if Artsakh was given status. No Azerbaijani politician has stated that they should be given status. Finally, we need to sober up and understand that the goal of the forces that came to power in the ‘90s is to turn Armenia into a direct corridor that will serve the Turkish-Azerbaijani strategic plans, that is, to completely expel the Armenians from this territory.”
According to her, the issue of the captives is just talk. The real problem is simply to turn our country into a territory, and if there are those who agree with that, then, according to Larisa Alaverdyan, such people are cursed. According to Alaverdyan, she does not have such facts that this was a predetermined war, but she thinks that the Armenian authorities have created conditions for Azerbaijan and Turkey to start a war. He is also against Armenia accepting refugees from Afghanistan in the name of humanity, as some politicians suggest. “The same Taliban will come to Armenia under the guise of refugees. Whoever created that situation there should accept the refugees. When your country is facing threats, when the army is facing incomprehensible situations, the people are in a state of stress, is this society capable of integrating people of other cultures? I think that these are not accidental steps, it is not accidental that what is needed is not taking place, and completely different issues are included in the agenda.”
According to Larisa Alaverdyan, the opposition should seriously raise all these issues in the National Assembly and take more drastic steps if it sees that everything it says remains on the air. According to her, the National Assembly should be boycotted.
