Azerbaijanis continue to keep the Chayzam portion of the Yerevan-Kapan state highway closer off. Azerbaijanis closed it off late in the evening on Wednesday, August 25th, around 11:15 PM. The representatives of the Armenian Armed Forces and Russian border guards are negotiating with the Azerbaijanis in an attempt to open the route. According to sources, the Azerbaijanis did this because Armenian soldiers allegedly stabbed one of their soldiers.
However, the Armenian Ministry of Defense denied those rumors, calling them another lie. The deputy governor of Syunik, Narek Babayan, told Aravot Daily in an interview that the connection with the capital has not been cut off because there are alternative routes. “The Kapan-Tatev route is being paved quickly at the moment.
Alternative routes from Shurnukh to Vorotan and from Vorotan to Khot are also operating. The Syunik province, particularly Kapan, is not cut off from the outside world,” Narek Babayan said. The situation also alarmed the residents of the province’s Bardzravan village. If the route is not opened, the residents say that Bardzravan, Shurnukh, and Vorotan will be surrounded. However, they are trying to find ways out. “The village has an alternative route through the mountains that connects the village to Kapan via the Tatev-Aghvan route.
