“It was around 11:30 PM when we reached Chayzami. The police pulled us over and said that we need to wait a little. Around two hours later, they said that we should close our windows and move quickly,” Marine Karapetyan, a resident of Kapan, said. She was traveling from Yerevan to Kapan on August 25th. Azerbaijanis continue to close off the Chayzam-Shurnukh-Vorotan portion of the Yerevan-Meghri interstate highway.
Negotiations with the enemy restarted on Thursday at 4 PM and continue. Russian border guards are participating in the negotiations along with representatives of the Armenian Armed Forces. By closing off the main route, however, Syunik, and Kapan in particular, are not cut off from the outside world.
It is possible to travel uninterrupted along the alternative route from Aghvani-Tatev. This route is quickly being paved, but it is difficult for trucks to pass.

National Assembly deputy Davit Danielyan told Aravot Daily during a phone interview that he is unable to give exact numbers as far as how many vehicles have accumulated. “The police are trying to escort one truck along the Tatev-Aghvani-Kapan route. If it works, the rest of the trucks will be able to travel along the alternative route,” the deputy said.
