The Azeris are constantly firing in the direction of the border village of Kut in Gegharkunik region. And Jirayr, the only first grader in the Kut village, came to school on his favorite vehicle- his bicycle- on the roads targeted by the Azerbaijanis. The Minister of Education and Science Vahram Dumanyan personally visited Kut to congratulate Jirayr on Knowledge Day.
Jirayr was quiet. He received the gifts, listened to the minister’s jokes about his interesting haircut- “Did everyone cut their hair at the same hairdresser, is there a trend or is it a symbol of Kut?” No matter how much the reporters pleaded with him, Jirayr did not give an interview. He only said he was going to become a policeman and started smiling shyly. In the Kut village’s school, the first, second, and third grade students are taught at the same time. The number of students is small – one or two students in each class.

Jirayr’s teacher, Liana Gharibyan, said that it is very difficult to train with children in those conditions. “It’s very difficult, but it turned out that way. Depending on the number of students, they have to sit like that and we are paid as one class. We were just talking to Zhanna Andreasyan. We will use all possible means so that at least the first graders can sit separately, it is very important. It is a period of learning. They should at least be separate for mathematics and Armenian language.”
As in the elementary grades, in the upper grades, they are also taught together. “We do not have a separate class, everyone is like that. All classes are either two-part or three-part.” The teacher said that when Azeris fired, they heard muffled noises. In response to the question of if they have shelters where they can take shelter during the shootings, she answered that there has been no opportunity to take shelter yet, but there are such registered areas. “We are all targeted, but we have gotten used to it, and we are not afraid.” Students were advised to leave the school separately in any case and to not crowd around so that they do not become a target.
