Once again about responsibility

September 04,2021 11:01

“Aparaj” published information on the official website of the ARF Artsakh Central Committee according to which “a group of fallen soldiers’ relatives threw stones at the Civil Contract  deputies staying at the Armenia hotel in Stepanakert, after which the deputies hurriedly fled from the Artsakh Republic.”

The website did not publish any videos, recordings or photos. It did not speak to the “stone throwers” to confirm the news. That is why, from my point of view, it is just a rumor like many of the government’s allegations for which there are no factual justifications. If someone truly threw stones, then I think it is simply hooliganism and a reprehensible act.

But I am interested in another question. To what extent are the Civil Contract deputies responsible for our humiliating defeat and casualties in the war? If this question had been asked about the My Step deputies in parliament from November 9, 2020 to June 20, 2021, I would have said that their responsibility is minimal. The decisions that Pashinyan made both before and during the war were made alone without even consulting anyone, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs or the Speaker of the National Assembly. The scope of responsibilities of the My Step and then the Civil Contract members is quite narrow: to press the “right button,” as well as to defend their boss and all the decisions made by him in parliament, in interviews, and on Facebook, and to “crush” all his opponents. Those who went to the parliament in 2018 may not know what their real function is. However, in 2021, after the national catastrophe, becoming an MP in the National Assembly means taking responsibility for the decisions, the adoption of which they have never participated in and will not participate in.

There is another side to the issue that people with opposition views do not like. There is a certain number of citizens (including me) who think that Nikol Pashinyan is the main culprit of the defeats and losses. How should they check whether these citizens are a majority or a minority? Naturally, through snap elections. And these elections showed that the majority of the citizens who came to the polls do not consider Pashinyan guilty, and/or defeats and losses are not among the priorities of their interests. The problem, therefore, is not with Pashinyan and the Civil Contract members; the problem is with that majority. They should not be offended in any way. Their choice should be respected. We should try to understand those people.
