“Unless serious and targeted steps are taken by cultural institutions to preserve the Armenian cultural heritage in the occupied territories of Artsakh, the Armenian inscriptions confirming their history will soon be erased from Armenian churches,” the Human Rights Defender of Artsakh, Gegham Stepanyan, said during a conference organized by the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin titled “International Religious Freedom and Peace.”
He stressed that for a long time, Azerbaijan has been preventing the entry of Armenians to Dadivank, and this is one example of Azerbaijan’s attitude towards religious freedom. “Information from various sources also proves that in the occupied territories, Azerbaijan demolishes Armenian cemeteries and uses the gravestones as building material.
Monuments dedicated to the memory of the participants of the Great Patriotic War and the victims of the Artsakh War are being desecrated in the most brutal ways,” Gegham Stepanyan added.
