“What Aliyev said is not a surprise- Armenia rejected the offer to stop the war three times”: Artur Ghazinyan

September 24,2021 17:15

“That announcement was not a surprise for me. I had information that there were three attempts to stop the war, and Armenia refused all three times,” said Artur Ghazinyan, a member of the Armenia alliance, in reference to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev’s statement that on October 7, 2020, when he called to congratulate Russian President Vladimir Putin on his birthday, a way to end the war was also discussed, but Armenia did not join the bilateral agreement.

“Since Aliyev said that the offer was from Putin to Pashinyan, this already has high credibility. Therefore, let us state that Pashinyan agreed to stop the war only after handing it over to Shushi. Before that, he rejected all the proposals, as if he had a decision that the war should have stopped only if Shushi fell,” Artur Ghazinyan said. He believed that Russia actually was the one to initiate ending the war, although Aliyev attributes it to himself. “Russia managed to persuade him that the war should be stopped, and Russia was based on reaching a settlement based on Lavrov’s plan.”

Artur Ghazinyan also stressed that with such statements, Azerbaijan is also trying to create a rift in the Armenian-Russian relations, hinting through Aliyev that Nikol Pashinyan was waiting for an offer from the West during the war.
