“Low-quality weapons were not brought to Armenia during Serzh Sargsyan’s administration”: Eduard Sharmazanov on Davit Tonoyan’s arrest

October 04,2021 12:15

The former Vice Speaker of the National Assembly and Republican Party member Eduard Sharmazanov told Aravot Daily in an interview that he is surprised that Armenia’s political authorities are only learning about the low-quality weapons now and that they are only announcing it now by arresting former Minister of Defense Davit Tonoyan and others. Former Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan, his former adviser Davit Galstyan- who has been charged with four crimes- and Deputy Chief of the General Staff Stepan Galstyan were recently arrested on suspicion of acquiring low-quality weapons and causing particularly large damage to the state. This damage amounted to approximately three billion AMD.

Eduard Sharmazanov considered the element of political tricks obvious in this scandalous case. “This person (meaning Nikol Pashinyan-NG) is going to work with the Turks, so he is trying to divert public attention by making such arrests.” According to Eduard Sharmazanov, the time differences mentioned in the first and second messages of the NSS are quite telling. “What is being said has nothing to do with the previous government, although it has been unsuccessfully propagandized by the authorities. The fact is that low-quality weapons and ammunition were stored and were not accepted in Armenia during Serzh Sargsyan’s administration.”
