A possible clash between Azerbaijan and Iran could have serious consequences for both Armenia and the region. In this regard, we spoke to the leader of the Verelk party, Aleksan Minasyan.
– Mr. Minasyan, Iranian-Azerbaijani relations have become quite tense in recent days. Quite contradictory predictions are made in this regard. Is there a possibility of an Iran-Azerbaijan war?

– Of course, I think that there is no possibility of war, as all the regional states understand that this war can start the third world war. The point is that Iran is much more powerful than Azerbaijan, and such a war should not be expected. But let’s not forget that as in the 44-day war, so today Turkey is behind Azerbaijan, which is equal to Iran with its land military potential.
– Iran-Israel-Azerbaijan: what would you say about the trilateral “game” of these countries, in connection with which the Iranian general made a statement?
– It is not accidental that the Iranian command and many Iranian websites prove that they see a Zionist representation along their border. In other words, this says that Israel’s participation in that war is also possible, judging by the tense relations between Iran and Israel. I think Russia will not stand by that war either, because if it steps aside, leaving Iran alone, Russia itself will get the next blow. That is why I suppose that there will be no war between Iran and Azerbaijan.
– What is the Armenian factor in this explosive situation?
– The Armenian factor is very small here because today we have a very weak army and we can not have a serious impact. Of course, we will resist the Azerbaijani-Turkish expansion as much as we can. But to say that we play a big role would be a lie. But for a year now, we have been obliged to strengthen our army, which would keep Syunik invincible and have its contribution to regional peace. Our only role is to keep Syunik strong. I have repeatedly stated that Syunik is not only important for Armenia, but also a gateway to world peace.
