When we provide a safe and supportive environment for girls, we help them grow into the women who lead our societies forward. In Georgia, we are proud to empower girls and women to succeed as civil society leaders, entrepreneurs, civil servants, military officers, athletes, even airline pilots.
Still only 29 years old, Nadya Benklyan is the first female civil aviation pilot in Georgia since the country regained independence.
Nadya had to work hard and fight to achieve her goals. More so than many others, as women still have barriers to overcome in the aviation field.
“To describe the emotional experience of flying is very difficult. You feel many things at once – responsibility, confidence, pride, and happiness. It is especially gratifying when you are the one flying the plane. A successful flight gives you faith that you made the right choice, despite all the obstacles,” says Nadya.
