“One of the two deputy ministers of defense of the Republic of Armenia is a former policeman and the other represents the financial bloc. They did not serve in the army. I do not have a personal problem with anyone. During the war, the person in the position of commander-in-chief did not serve in the army. Now, these questions have been put in the fourth folder and they say that the deputy chairman of the defense commission did not serve in the army, and to make it a priority is in no way acceptable,” said Tigran Abrahamyan, MP of the I Have Honor faction of the National Assembly regarding how Artur Ghazinyan, MP of the Armenia alliance, was yet again not elected as the Deputy Chair of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security. According to him, if Artur Ghazinyan had a problem that raised a legal question, of course it would be the subject of discussion not only in that sphere.
“The government’s intentions for legislative initiatives, which were announced during the previous committee session, are unacceptable. They said that there is a goal in the form of legislative regulations to limit the nomination of candidates as the deputy chair of the commission. By this, in fact, the government is trying to give a legislative look to its wishes and whims,” said Tigran Abrahamyan. According to him, 11 months have passed since the war, but to date, the commission has not presented the concept of reform of the Armed Forces, and its various components have not undergone radical changes, including the implementation of the combat shift. According to him, until the security system in the Republic of Armenia is restored, modernized, and brought to a proper level, Armenia will act as a concessionaire in all foreign policy processes. Tigran Abrahamyan said that after the formation of the National Assembly of the 7th convocation, the opposition nominated NA Vice-Speaker and chairs of 3 committees, and in 12 committees the opposition had a candidate for a deputy chair. They were nominated and elected without any problems. However, the reason given for the candidate for the deputy chair of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security is that he did not serve in the army. “In this case, if the government’s goal is to create intrigue and an opportunity for a show, then we do not intend to play that game.”
