“The decision was made to avoid war,” said Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a questions and answers session between the National Assembly-Government on October 28 in response to the question of why Armenian troops withdrew from Sanasar to Syunik after the war in December.
He said, “My belief was that if it were not for that decision, military operations would have started there and there would have been problems in Syunik. We were tens of kilometers away, but, unfortunately, we got there. The decision was made by the logic of negotiations that we should hand over the seven regions. Those territories were handed over due to being part of seven districts. It is registered in the law on administrative-territorial divisions. I ordered the withdrawal, and Vagharshak Harutyunyan did it.”
