“Nominal economic growth will not be in the double digits, but 13-14%,” RA Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan told reporters today, avoiding publishing exact data on real economic growth, adding that his department is not directly responsible for economic growth. They try to promote it using the available tools. The journalists said that when he took office, Vahan Kerobyan promised to end the year with double-digit economic growth, otherwise he did not rule out that he would resign.
The Minister noted that the government is working to change the structure of the economy, to move from a consumption-based economic growth to an investment-based economic growth model, which requires softening the bureaucratic system, digitalization, and the involvement of qualified professionals.
The government is currently planning two major programs in this direction; the first is to provide infrastructure assistance to investors and to use state property for investment. According to the Minister, these are very good tools to invest in Armenia. In response to the question about how according to statistics, there are countries that have withdrawn direct investments from Armenia, the Minister answered that they are not countries, but individual investors who have fears about the security environment. He noted that in the field of construction, for example, more than 180 of the over 300 multi-apartment building permits issued in the last 12 years are now under construction, which speaks of a large volume. “And that speaks to the fact that, yes, investments are flowing in.”
