“There has been a catastrophe of a historical scale in Armenia. The victory achieved at the cost of the blood of thousands of our heroes was simply dedicated to the enemy,” Artur Ghazinyan, a member of the Armenia faction of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, stated during the discussion on “The Need for an Investigative Committee on the War: Post-war Recovery.” According to him, the government wants to solve the problem not in the legal sphere, but to take it to the political field. Speaking about the establishment of a commission of inquiry investigating the 44-day war by the government, he noted that this tool is generally used by the opposition, but in this case the government, according to Artur Ghazinyan, uses that platform to cover up those responsible for the war.
“Now they are looking for ways to neutralize the influential role of the opposition in the commission. They are discussing to fill the commission from the club of extra-parliamentary clients, to take a quarter from the hands of the opposition. In the case of that quarter, we can request and receive any document. It shows that they do not have the confidence and conviction that with this staff we have in the commission, they will be able to hide their war crimes.” Artur Ghazinyan said that they are waiting for the government to initiate an amendment to the RA NA Rules of Procedure law in order to achieve their intention.
“Rumors are being circulated among the ruling party’s circles of the names of people who may be in this commission. Judging by those names, you understand that the lambs want to keep the wolves. People who are directly involved and responsible for this historic catastrophe and its outcome must trust the investigation of that historic catastrophe. I have expressed a position that the materials of the commission should be sent to the Prosecutor General. This caused alarm among the pro-government MPs. I told him that in addition to the closed report, there should be a gap where all the decisions will be presented. As a result of the work of the commission, the factual data should be sent to the Prosecutor General, who promised me and my colleagues that if we present facts, He will arrest Nikol Pashinyan. The work of my friends in the NA Defense Committee has one primary goal – to find those facts and present them to the Prosecutor General.”
