“The 3+3 format, which Turkey desires to achieve, has only one goal: to ensure that Turkey becomes a powerful factor in the region and for improvement of the implementation of political trade with superpowers,” Vazgen Petrosyan, a political scientist and orientalist, said in a conversation with Aravot during the conference “Armenia-Turkey: Views from Within” organized by the People’s Movement of Armenia NGO at the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences in reference to the Turkish President’s proposal to form a platform with the participation of six countries in the region.
As for the recent statements of the Turkish President and Foreign Minister on the readiness to normalize relations with Armenia, Vazgen Petrosyan stressed that Turkey has always had three preconditions: recognition of its territorial integrity by Armenia, renunciation of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, and surrendering Artsakh to Azerbaijan “Currently, the 4th has been added – the provision of the ‘Zangezur Corridor.’ In other words, they have territorial demands from us, which will make the situation of Armenia and the Armenian people unpredictable.”
