It is meaningless to complain about Russians from the National Assembly podium

November 17,2021 11:33

A few days after the glorious end of the war, I wrote that now, in my opinion, even a 4th grader should be clear that the next target of Azerbaijan’s attack will be the Syunik region of Armenia. In response, the over-enthusiastic supporters of the government accused me of spreading panic, claiming that Artsakh is one thing, “officially” the territory of Azerbaijan, and that the sovereign territory of Armenia is quite another, and the Russians, Persians, as well as the whole international community will not allow such encroachments. Those who make such judgments are probably not familiar with the history of the world and the Armenian people, nor do they follow the current events in the world. The victorious side of the war is never satisfied with what it has gained at the moment of signing the defeat card (in this case, on November 9, 2020), and tries to extort the maximum from the weakened opponent.

Over this past year, the government also did not understand the seriousness of the situation and, apparently, hoped that it would show some rural agility in the trilateral talks and be able to somehow maintain the “status quo” of November 9. Now it turns out that this is a completely wrong calculation. Foreign policy and diplomacy are much more complicated and delicate tasks than “scrutinizing” this or that person with whipping speeches. It is especially difficult to build the right relations with Russia. Not only do our current officials have no idea how the Russian government is built or how issues should be resolved there, but most of them do not even know Russian.

Yesterday, the Civil Contract members received an instruction from their boss to blackmail the Russians from the tribune of the National Assembly, and in more popular language, to “get upset.” First of all, the deputies who entered the parliament with the list compiled by Pashinyan do not have the political weight or the authority for their appeals to have any impact on the Russians or the international community. Second, we need to work with Russia in an instrumental and bureaucratic way. It is not a country that can be affected by PR actions. And finally, the situation on the battlefield is not the fault of the Russians at all. The reason is the helpless state.

The parliamentary opposition says that the way out is the removal of the government. What does it mean to organize new special parliamentary elections? Are you still not convinced by the experience of June 20 that Pashinyan’s electorate (more than 680,000 citizens), to put it mildly, is indifferent to human and territorial losses? If there are new snap elections tomorrow, I have no doubts about their outcome.
