Ahead of emotional perceptions

November 20,2021 11:33

Our foreign policy failures, which I consider one of the main reasons for the defeat in the war, are due to the fact that since 1998 this policy has been guided by the mentality of the “people,” the majority of the public. Of course, the current government is the absolute “champion” of being popular. In my opinion, the whole problem is that the government should NOT be guided by the majority of the population in important, delicate, and demanding issues. This is not a store where “the customer is always right” and there is a need to adapt the product to the taste of consumers. Swearing, applauding, and rejoicing in foreign policy is not a priority. The majority, the mass, is naturally guided by emotions.

“Whatever happens, the Russians will save us.” When they do not save us, “oh, what an unjust world this is, everyone lied to our nation again, and the Russian came out as a traitor.” The mirror image of this thinking is the conviction of some political forces and their few supporters, which can be formulated by Ostap Ibrahimovic’s bold call: “Believe me, the West will help us.” This second pole thinks (I think wrong) that, say, the United States or Europe is as interested in the processes in the South Caucasus as Russia.

Regarding that country. Like any other country, Russia is governed by its own interests, which, in my opinion, are only 20% in line with ours and 80% in line with the interests of Azerbaijan and Turkey. The reason why is a long conversation, but I think it is our fault. But on the other hand, let me remind you that the Azeris calmly enter our positions without firing and remove our soldiers from those positions without any resistance. Please explain to me what Russia’s fault is here. Yes, Russia has obligations under some agreements. But first, are we not convinced in the 20th and 21st centuries that all kinds of contracts can be a piece of paper in some cases? Second, are these contracts intended for the aforementioned cases? I suggest that all readers think with me why Russia helped us in the 90s, but now, in fact, it does not help us. As a tip, I will quote the famous American poet Edgar Allan Poe: “No vehicle will move if you do not know where you are going.”
