Artur Vanetsyan: “Stepanakert should have been defended, but no paper should have been signed”

November 26,2021 15:20

“Nikol Pashinyan announced in the National Assembly that he had ordered the withdrawal of troops in Syunik. Well, who are you to give such an order?”

Artur Vanetsyan, the former head of the NSS and head of the I Have Honor faction, told reporters during a meeting on November 25. He recalled that for the first time after his arrest, when he came out, he was asked if he would have signed a statement with Nikol Pashinyan.

“I said no. Stepanakert was in danger. I said, it’s ok, give them Stepanakert too, but keep Kelbajar and Lachin. And an uproar started, Vanetsyan said, give Stepanakert, keep Kelbajar and Lachin. I repeat, nothing should have been signed, the situation should have been assessed. According to official data, we had more than 25,000 troops in the territory of Artsakh.  We could have pushed our positions back, set up in Kelbajar and Lachin, and uphold Armenia’s security, which we don’t have today.”

According to Arthur Vanetsyan, even after those steps, of course, Stepanakert had to be defended, but a document should not have been signed. We should have fought for our country.
